Installation Art

Installation Art has still to come of age in India. Though we have several world renowned artists of Indian origin amongst the who's who on the International diaspora, India has yet to grow beyond the self-imposed peripheries of convention.

This is an installation by sculptor Anish Kapoor at the Millenium Park Campus, Chicago. In the artist's own words,
"And then, since it is in the form of a gate, the participant, the viewer, will be able to enter into this very deep chamber that does in a way the same thing to one's reflection as the exterior of the piece is doing to the reflection of the city around. "
"It's a multiple-layered experience of a kind of personal space that's opened up in the stone and the city space that's reflected on the exterior."
So, What is Installation Art ??
Simply put, Installation Art is a way of converting an entire 3-Dimensional space provided into a work of Art, wherein enthusiasts may be able to walk into the design and interact with it. The whole space provided for artwork is transformed into a visual experience in itself.
The only glitch of this process has been the eventual difficulty in finding a utility for it. Works of Installation Art are therefore usually placed at Museums and Art Galleries. This faculty of Art can be wonderfully translated into Architecture and Interior Design, where spaces naturally lend themselves to be transformed into experiences.
