Sir J.J. School of Art

Sir J.J. School of Art and Architecture is one of the highest acclaimed institutes in INDIA. It has been the first college of Arts and Architecture established in ASIA. This highly coveted center of learning has some of the most revered and popular names in the art world, amongst its legendary list of alumni.

Sir J.J. College is located near Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus, the center-point of what is known as 'Old Mumbai' - the 'town'. Quite at a close call from the college are some major tourist landmarks like the Municipal Corporation building, the Times of India building, the Mumbai High Court, Mumbai University, Oval Cricket Ground, Kala Ghoda, Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Museum, Jehangir Art Gallery, Regal Theatre, Electric House, Taj Hotel.... and the Gateway of India too, some distance away.

All of these monuments are architectural marvels in their own right. You may wonder at the surprising identicality of names of some landmarks here. They have been re-named after the hero of Maharashtra, King Shivajirao Bhosle. When these structures were originally constructed by the British during their colonial rule here, they were named differently.... Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus was known as Victoria Terminus.... and Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Museum is actually the same Prince of Wales Museum of yesteryears.
